Community Involvement

We’ve been blessed. The business has been healthy and successful since it was started in 1997. We are passionate about giving back to the community. Betty currently is active in Rotary. One of the highlights of her Rotary involvement was a medical mission trip to Honduras a few years ago. There she had the opportunity to work with physicians and dentists both from Asheville and from the Honduran communities, to provide much needed services in some of the rural mountain communities. In fact, if you have any old pairs of glasses (including readers) hiding out in your drawers and cabinets, let us know. The Rotary Club will get these to needy recipients in Honduras. Betty has also had the opportunity to travel to Belize on a Rotary Friendship Exchange.  There she spent time with Belizean Rotary Clubs seeing the local projects in which they are involved.  Many of those projects include sanitation projects in the schools and hospitals and also improving the educational resources available in the rural schools.

Betty also serves on the Board of Directors for MemoryCare a local program for those with Alzheimer’s Disease and their families. The treatment model has received international recognition for their holistic approach to supporting the caregivers.   Because of her love of the performing arts, Betty is also very supportive of the local art community. She currently serves on the Board of Asheville Community Theatre. A bit of trivia—Charlton Heston was the first director at this theatre! She previously served on the Board of NCStage Company, our local professional theatre. She is also an avid supporter of the Asheville Symphony.

Dawn too is a theatre lover and has volunteered with Asheville Community Theatre helping with costuming. She recently finished her Bachelors in Human Services with a Certificate and Concentration in Gerontology and is currently working on coursework for her Masters degree in Social Work, which consumes most of her non-work hours. When she completes that degree watch out world! Dawn is a also member of the National Association of Social Worker’s and a Board Certified Human Service Professional.
